In her endorsement statement, Senator Howell said: “I have known Natalie and her family for over 30 years while serving alongside Senator Lucas. She’ll bring her background in business and finance to best serve the people of Prince William and Fairfax Counties. I am proud to endorse her for the House of Delegates District 19. I know Natalie will build on the legacy that Senator Lucas and I have built in our decades serving the Commonwealth.”

Meet Natalie

A lifelong Virginian, Natalie L. Shorter is running to represent Prince William and Fairfax Counties in the House of Delegates.

Natalie was raised by her dad, an Army veteran who served more than two decades in the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Department & Narcotics unit, and her mom, a German immigrant, who struggled to speak the language when she arrived, but grew to proudly call the United States home.

The granddaughter of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, Natalie learned at a young age the value of service and helping your community in whatever way you can. Since then, she has been a front line advocate, particularly for civil rights and women’s reproductive freedom.

After graduating with an advanced studies diploma from IC Norcom High School’s magnet program, Natalie battled life-altering challenges — losing both of her parents, becoming a single mom, and sometimes surviving on public assistance. But through hard work, determination, and the help of her family, she was able to build her career in sales and finance management, focused on ensuring more Virginians have the financial literacy needed to become financially secure.

Natalie and her husband, a Navy veteran, live in Woodbridge with two teenage daughters. Natalie and her husband chose to build their life in Northern Virginia because of its many economic opportunities. Together, they started and grew a successful real estate small business. Like many Virginians, Natalie is also currently completing her bachelor’s degree in political science online, while working full-time in finance and as a mom. As of January 2023, Natalie was appointed to the Prince William County Library Board by a unanimous bi-partisan vote of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.

Natalie is running for the House of Delegates to stand up to the radical policies of the Youngkin administration that are hurting Virginia families. Natalie believes we need to protect abortion rights in Virginia and defend against extremists who are trying to take away her and her daughters’ right to choose. Natalie also believes we need to tackle the gun violence epidemic that has personally touched her family, ensure every child gets a world-class education, and invest in 21st century infrastructure solutions to fix the traffic bottlenecks that plague Northern Virginians’ lives. Together, Natalie believes we can ensure all Virginia families are not just scraping by paycheck to paycheck, but thriving.
